Laser Hair Removal – FAQ

Because electrolysis treats one hair follicle at a time, it can be very tedious and time consuming. The Yag CoolGlide laser can cover more area and can disable hundreds of unwanted hair follicles in seconds with long-lasting results.

Men and women of all skin colors who desire a hair-free appearance are good candidates for laser hair reduction. However, people with white or very light hair color do not respond well to laser hair reduction due to the lack of pigmentation in the hair follicle.

Virtually every body part where you desire a hair-free appearance in specific parts of their body can be treated with the CoolGlide laser system. Certain areas, beneath the eyebrow, near the eyes, and hair in the ear or nostrils are more difficult to reach with the laser hand piece.

In one hour or less, most body and facial hair can be treated. Generally, patients require 5-8 treatment sessions depending on the individuals desired degree of hair reduction.

You should not expect to be “hair-free” with any hair removal method, including laser. At the end of the treatment sessions, you can expect a 70% long term hair reduction both in amount and thickness. Touch-ups can be performed one to two times yearly for further hair reduction.

Some body parts are more sensitive than others, but you should expect little or no discomfort. However, a topical anesthetic can also be applied. Most patients who have had waxing, sugaring, electrolysis, and treatments with older lasers report that the CoolGlide is more comfortable.

Because laser hair reduction is non-invasive, you can resume normal activities immediately. The skin in the treated area will be pink and slightly swollen (similar to a sunburn), but will return to normal in 1-2 hours. Sensitive skin can take longer to “bounce back”. The area should be treated like a sunburn, no harsh chemicals or peels, and be sure to keep the area covered with sunscreen. You may resume shaving in three to four days. Waxing, sugaring, and electrolysis are strongly discouraged, as these practices will interfere with future laser treatments. Gradually, the hair follicles that have been disabled will begin to fall out or shed. To prevent uneven tanning, avoid sun exposure and tanning for 1-2 weeks
